Uses:
Wood is used for construction, firewood and for charcoal production. The bark contains tannin, used as a dye.
Traditional medicine: Leaf and bark decoctions are applied externally against scabies
Morphology
Erect or spreading shrub or tree, usually up to 4 m, DBH: 20 cm. The smooth bark is greenish yellow, smooth, thin, peeling off in patches. Complex system of horizontal roots and pneumatophores (shoot-shaped).
Leaves are simple, opposite, elliptical or obovate, green above, gray - white below; leaf margins reflexed.
The yellow to orange flowers, occur in 4-10 flowered clusters. Petal and stamens: 4. Calyx: 5 lobes. Flowering occurs all year round
The fleshy, seed:1, greyish-green, round-shaped and slightly flattened.
Ecology
Pioneer species in muddy conditions or on coastal gravel soils, tolerant of high salinity.
True mangrove species.
Distribution & Conservation Status
Distribution - in northern of Khanh Hoa province:
Grows on the edge of Môn lagoon, Nha Phu lagoon, some islands near the coast.
Conservation status:
One of the most common species in mangroves.
