Uses:
The wood is used for construction and fuel. The bark has abundant tannins used for dyeing nets and tanning leather.
Traditional medicine: The bark is used as a medicine to stop bleeding and treat diarrhea.
Morphology
Large tree, can grow up to 20 m, DBH: 50cm; stilt root 3 m high.
Leaves simple, opposite, lower surface with scattered black dots; lamina broadly elliptic or ovate-oblong, apex with a mucronate tip
long red stipule 6-8 cm. stipules large, 8 cm long, ivory white.
Inflorescences axillary cymes, 2 or 3 times forked, 4-12 flowers.
Flowers white or cream, fragrant, bisexual; calyx 4-lobed; petals 4, densely hairy along the margins; stamens 8; ovary 2 - semi-inferior.
Oblong ovoid fruit, brown, 5cm long. Hypocotyls hanging, cylindrical, up to 70cm long, with a rough surface.
Flowering & Fruit: May - December.
Ecology
Usually grows in estuaries, along lagoons and in low coastal areas flooded by normal daily high tides. Suitable on thick muddy soil.
It is also an important pioneer species of mangroves.

Distribution - in northern of Khanh Hoa province:
Distributed along Nha Phu lagoon and Môn lagoon.
Conservation status:
It is necessary to protect and develop this species in mangroves, due to its good protective value.
